Art Awareness is one of the oldest traditions at Brookdale Elementary. For over 20 years, parent volunteers have presented artwork in the classrooms. Over the course of a student’s time at Brookdale Elementary, from kindergarten through fifth grade, a student will have been introduced to 36 artists ranging from old masters like Pieter Brueghel and Rembrandt, to modern works like those of Picasso or Frank Lloyd Wright!
Parent volunteers are needed to be Art Awareness presenters. No experience or art knowledge is necessary. PowerPoint presentations are provided to volunteers for each art piece that will be presented. There are also ready-made student activities, if you opt to do an activity the end of your presentation. Art Awareness presentations are monthly from October – May and each presentation lasts approximately 40 minutes. Volunteer for one month or as many months as you’d like! Many working parents volunteer during their lunch break. For more information or to sign up as a volunteer, please email our committee chair Kimberly Miracle-Gray at (email@example.com).
